Chapter Two – Niche Blogging
I’ll start this review with Chapter Two – Niche Blogging. Chapter two is about what to blog about. The niche you want to blog in. Since this book’s title includes a reference to money, this chapter is written in the context of helping you to create a profitable blog.
Darren references the beginnings of his blog and the frustration his readers faced reading his blog because of the different topics he was blogging about. The authors walk you through why you might not want to blog about every topic you’re interested and provide a list titled 10 Reasons Why Niche Blogs Are Successful.
Every chapter includes Problogger Blog Tips and for two chapter there’s three of ’em.
1. Spotting Niches – Spotting Niches lists some attributes to think about while reviewing blogs in the niche you’re interested.
2. Niche Analysis – Niche Analysis includes pointers on audience size and level of competitiveness and how to test a niche category.
3. The Right Niche For You – The Right Niche For You lists four points to consider when selecting your niche that fits you, the blogger.
How to Choose a Profitable Niche Topic for Your Blog
This section of chapter two asks the following questions and walks you through the mindset to answer these questions. Each question consists of paragraphs of discussion to help you figure it out.
- Are You Interested in the Topic?
- Do You Have Experience or Expertise in the Topic?
- Is the Topic Popular?
- Is the Niche Growing or Shrinking?
- What’s the Competition?
- What’s the Competition Neglecting?
- Will You Have Enough Content?
- Is the Niche Able to Be Monetized?
- How Wide Should a Niche Be?
- Niche Demographic or Niche Topic?
To help you answer these questions, each question has an exercise at the end of the discussion the follows the question.
The chapter ends with six Tools for Helping You to Choose a Niche for Your Blog.
Overall
With 8 exercises, 3 tips, 10 questions, and 6 tools to help you choose a niche, chapter two is chock full of great information to help solidify your decision on what niche you want to carve your blog out of.
