WordPress 2.7 – Hemorrhage Dashboard

In this article I’ll be providing a screen shot and short video that covers the WordPress 2.7 – Hemorrhage version.  We’ve found out at the WordPress 2.7 Roadmap page that 2.7 will be released (cross your fingers – for some folks anyway) on Novemeber 10, 2008.  So for me, I like keeping on top of the changes since I’m currently in a love affair with WordPress.   :)

I’m trying to keep these blog posts about WordPress 2.7 short because a lot could change with 2.7 between now and its actual release date.  But, it’s worth poking around to see what’s new, updated or removed.  As a reminder, I run WordPress 2.6.2 on this blog and 2.7 – Hemorrhage on my local PC so I can keep up to date.

This post is  about the WordPress Dashboard and the first screen shot below is the current version 2.6.2 version or WordPress.

Here’s the new WordPress 2.7 – Hemorrhage Dashboard below.  Notice the tabbed menu interface to the left.  As well as the QuickPress panel for posting a blog post – quickly.

Also notice the in WordPress 2.7 – Hemmorhage there is no button to View Blog as compared to 2.6.2 in the first image above.  Well, it’s really there,  it’s the image of a screen preview to the right of the blog title, in this case the blog title is My WordPress 2.7 Blog.

The problem with that is a lot of folks won’t think to click on it to view their blog.  You have to assume then, that if you click on the big “W” image to the left of the blog title that you’d be taken to the WordPress website, but not so – yet, it’s coming. I think it’s important to either give a choice in the WordPress Settings page to be an image or text or both when someone wants to view their blog

The rest of this post is a quick video run through of the Dashboard and its menu structure.
