Here are five favorite websites and/or tools you can check out for this weekend. I hope they enhance your web explorations. Whether old or new these are some of my faves that I came across this past week.
1. FFixer
FFixer is a customizable script that enhances your Facebook experience using Firefox or Google Chrome web browsers. You install Greasemonkey and then install the FFixer script. This will allow you to hover your mouse over images on Facebook and the image will pop-out to a larger view. FFixer also allows you to customize your account settings to control what displays on your Facebook homepage. There’s quite a few other features packed into FFixer. 2. Facebook Plugins
This past week the F8 Facebook conference took place and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg took the opportunity to introduce some new stuff. New stuff like the social bar plugin, the recommendation plugin, the activity stream plugin and the Facebook login plugin as well as the most talked about “like” button. 3. Design Inspiration
Whether you need a new business card or not you can always get your fill of design inspiration from some of the business card designs created in the last few years. OddStuff Magazine has a list of 90+ Most Unusual Business Card Designs Of All Time to get your inner creative designer juices flowing.
4. Twitter Permalinks
Need to reference a twitter tweet? Twitter permalinks are available with every tweet via the time setting of the tweet. At the end of each individual tweet is the time of the tweet or how long ago the tweet was tweeted. That is the permalink to that tweet. If you click on the time of the tweet you’ll be taken to an individual web page that displays that tweet. So if you need to reference a twitter tweet or bookmark a specific tweet for future reference, now you know.
5. Chrome Extensions
If you’re an avid Firefox user you probably already know about and use Firefox Add-ons. Add-ons increase the functionality of your Firefox browser. Well Google Chrome has Extensions. These are the same as Add-ons only for Google Chrome. In Google Chrome you can browse their extension web page to try some out. My favorites right now are the Shareaholic for Google Chrome extension and the StumbleUpon extension that displays the StumbleUpon bar in Google Chrome. Don’t know what StumbleUpon is? Thanks for the list of Chrome extensions. I’m a big Chrome fan & it’s not nearly as easy finding good sources of info for it as it is for FF.
I just started using Firefox because it’s got some brill extensions, much better than IE. After reading 5) I’m going to try out Chrome, looks like the plugins are really cool.

I am not sure what I like better, the name of the website or all of the information you are constantly providing the rest of us. Who knew Facebook had a conference, and I will definitely be using some plug-ins for it. Thanks again!
Great article Bill. I agree those tools are amazing and I think everybody need to install those on its personal computer. May be I can just add one more. RSS feed reader is a great addition to your browser, this way you can get the latest news about topics that you are interested in.

I’ve a question for you, I use internet explorer because that’s what came with computer. Everyone say that firefox is better but I don’t understand why. Is it really worth changong and if so why?

@Debbie: Hi Debbie and thanks for stoppin’ by. Because I’m on the web a lot I use many browsers – Google Chrome is my favorite, Firefox, Flock, Opera and Internet Explorer. I think when people buy new computers IE is typically the only and/or default browser and that’s okay.
Historically IE was a kludge and tried to become the standard for web browsing. But as more and more websites DID NOT display correctly in IE, the need from some other browser was obvious. Skip forward and Firefox eventually answered the call and it became the standard to which web designers/developers created websites for.
Firefox used to be faster than IE and I think it still is. There are many “add-ons” that expand the functionality of Firefox too.
You can use whatever browser you want and make sure you check what your website looks like in different browsers. If you look at your website statistics, you’ll most likely find a spot that shows you the most common browser that users use to browse to your website.
I still like IE, I use it daily a little bit and I make sure my websites display correctly in IE. But my heart belongs to Google Chrome right now as well as Firefox. Those two get used a lot by me daily. Hope that helps.

Yeah, Chrome is getting better and better all the time. I recently installed the SearchStatus plugin for it and it works great. Really fast. Also, websites display accurately, unlike explorer as usual.
Off to add a couple of plugins!
And got to agree about firefox. Our site wont display properly in IE6 *grrr* but always fine in firefox.
@Alison: Someday we’ll all be free from IE6. Hopefully things display good for you in IE7, IE8.
I’ve really got to switch away from IE to Firefox. I have a hard time viewing a lot of things and it’s particularly annoying when I am uploading and viewing my own sites, because they don’t always display properly. These are also some great tools you posted about. Thanks for the info.

I was just doing some web browsing on my Garmin Phone during my spare time at my work place, and I came across something I thought was interesting . It linked to your site so I came over. I can’t really find the relevance between your site and the one I came from, but your site good anyway.

Hi, does anyone know if there is an SEO extension for Google Chrome. I love Chrome but then use SEO Quake for work purposes. Its annoying constantly changing between the 2 browsers!
